Drašiči (199 inhabitants) is a remote village in the Municipality of Metlika in the White Carniola area, next to the border with Croatia. Its specific is a “parallel” economic system, which is based on the principle of “the commons”. An important element of the solidarity system is the neighbourhood vineyard cottage, i.e. a large building that acts as a “wine bank”. The vineyard cottage stores wine, which the villagers contribute to it once a year. In addition to supplying the villagers with wine when they need it, the common property in the vineyard cottage has another role to play. From the money the villagers get from selling the common wine, they help ensure the social security of their members.

The question of the identity of the people living in Drašići, whether local or national, regional or cultural, will be interesting to examine comparatively. Taking into account the Croatian context and the development of the same region after 30 years of Slovenian-Croatian state borders. Both regions seem to be sparsely populated and there are not many people on either side, but the traces are different. Traces of winning and traces of losing. In Slovenia, the traces of gaining are visible in every village. In Croatia, the trend is the opposite. However, there are different ways of identifying with Slovenian and Croatian states and even creating their own imaginary states. Moreover, our interlocutor played with the concept of Drašići – the county of wine. Cheers
